Tesla’s latest battery has caught the EV community by storm. This new battery isn’t just cheap , reducing the cost of raw material such as cobalt and lithium. The raw materials that are required to manufacture these batteries are the single most component that mark the price up exponentially. The prices of raw materials such as lithium and cobalt are through the roof due to the availability of these scarce resources and the transportation costs involved in transporting these raw materials to tesla factories where the batteries are produced. And it isn’t just tesla that has to pay hjgh costs for these batteries. Literally every single automaker that manufactures electric cars has to pay a high price for lithium ion batteries. You can therefore guess why finding a cheaper battery alternative is so important and advantageous.
Tesla knows it has to innovate if it wants to continue being the leader of the American EV market. Already, with the entry of big car makers such as GM, Ford and Volkswagen, Tesla is facing tough competition in the US and European markets. The lithium sulfur battery is a game changer because it uses sulfur as a cathode rather than cobalt in the lithium ion battery. The abundance of sulfur makes the lithium sulphur battery to be extremely cheap.

This will enable EV owners travel.long distances without charging the battery. Lithium sulfur batteries also have a superior charging capacity. It is reported the battery can charge from 10 to 80 % in as less as 10 minutes. Elon Musk has also revealed that Tesla’s new battery is durable. The battery degrades slowly thus ensuring a lengthy life. What’s more there lithium sulfur batteries are lighter meaning tesla cars will move faster and consume less energy, therefore prolonging the battery life.
Tesla’s electric vehicles such as the semi and Cybertruck will highly benefit from the new battery technology. Since the lithium sulfur battery will be smaller and increase volume, EV owners will have more storage space.
Elon Musk’s new battery technology is very cheap to manufacture and is unlike other batteries that require a complex and expensive manufacturing process. These batteries will also be safer ensuring consumers won’t have to worry about the battery heating and the car catching fire. The battery has undergone several shock and circuiting tests to ensure its safety.

The tesla House is currently powered by a lithium ion battery power pack. It is all set to be replaced with the new lithium sulfur battery technology.
